The village of Crosthwaite lies 5 miles west of Kendal, 3 miles south of Bowness-on-Windermere and is 5 miles from the M6 motorway.
Village life here is both relaxed and busy. There are many working farms, a blacksmith, a church, primary school and an excellent pub.
When the village post office and shop closed back in In 2005, local people were concerned there would be nowhere to meet to exchange news and and help any fellow villagers who may need support. They responded by innovating the "Crosthwaite Exchange". A thriving hub which meets each Wednesday in the Village Hall, the Exchange now offer refreshments, local produce and a growing range of services. It has acted as a role model to many other rural communities.
